Applications are currently being accepted for the 2023 IEG Fellowships for Doctoral Students. This research opportunity at IEG, Germany, is welcoming both German students and eligible international students to apply. The fellowships are specifically designed for PhD students in the fields of history, theology, or any other discipline with a historical focus. Candidates must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree and have been actively pursuing their doctorate for a maximum of three years. However, in exceptional cases, exceptions may be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Eligibility: Open to PhD students from both Germany and abroad.
  • Academic Requirement: Applicants must possess at least a Master’s level degree in history, theology, or any other discipline with a historical focus.
  • Scope: The fellowships are intended for disciplines that work historically.
  • Fellowship Type: Doctoral fellowships for PhD students.
  • Nationality: Open to both German and international students.
  • Minimum Degree Pursuit: Applicants should have been pursuing their doctorate for no more than three years at the time of taking up the fellowship. However, exceptions may be made in exceptional circumstances.

Fellowship Benefits:

  • The IEG Fellowship for doctoral students provides full funding for the research project and includes a monthly stipend of €1,350.
  • Fellowship recipients who have partners accompanying them to Mainz and whose partners do not earn more than €450 per month may be eligible for a family allowance. Please specify in your application if your partner will be accompanying you to Mainz.
  • Fellows who bring their underage children to Mainz can apply for child allowance.
