Taiwan Program Fellowships 2026–2027

The Taiwan Program at Shorenstein APARC, Stanford University, supports advanced research on contemporary Taiwan through two fellowship opportunities:

  • Visiting Fellowship – for mid-career and senior scholars or professionals.

  • Postdoctoral Fellowship – for junior scholars (currently closed).

These fellowships focus on critical issues affecting Taiwan’s economy, society, and culture in the context of global relations and postindustrial development.

Taiwan Program Visiting Fellowship (2026–2027)

Applications are now open for the Visiting Fellowship on Contemporary Taiwan for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Research Focus

The visiting fellow will collaborate with APARC faculty, Stanford scholars, and students to explore Taiwan’s future challenges and opportunities in areas such as:

  • Economic development

  • Social transformation

  • Technological innovation

  • Environmental adaptation

  • Institutional and policy reform

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a PhD degree or demonstrate a strong record of professional achievement in Taiwan-related fields.

  • Must be affiliated with an institution or organization outside Stanford.

  • English proficiency is required.

  • Preference will be given to mid-career professionals with significant research and publication records.

Fellowship Details

  • Appointment begins: Autumn Quarter 2026

  • Duration: One academic year

  • Stipend: $30,000 supplementary support

  • Residence requirement: Fellows must remain in residence at Stanford throughout the appointment.

About the Fellowship

  • Designed for recent PhDs (within three years of degree completion).

  • Duration: 10 months, starting Autumn Quarter.

  • Fellows engage in original research on Taiwan and contribute to APARC’s academic activities.

  • Benefits include salary, research expenses, and collaboration opportunities through SNAPL.

Applicants must have their PhD conferred by June 30 of the fellowship year.
