Sydney Speaks Master’s Thesis Award:

School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences may offer an award known as the Sydney Speaks Master’s Thesis Award to support students while they undertake a Master’s (Advanced) thesis in Linguistics at the University.

The objective of the award is to offer a stipend to a Masters student who is writing a thesis on variation and change in Australian English that will contribute to the Sydney Speaks project. Scholarship Award:

This scholarship offers a one off payment of $4,000 paid at the beginning of the semester/session in which you commence your supervised thesis course.

The recipient is responsible for making payment of tuition fees by the prescribed date as set out by the University eash session. Recipients of this award are responsible for the cost of books, study materials, accommodation and all other costs of study.

For all applicants

• Scholarships are available only to students on international study visas enrolling into VET courses.
• Scholarships will apply for the term starting immediately after the application deadline. Scholarships may not be deferred.
• Applicants who have previously received a scholarship may apply for a second scholarship. Assessment of their applications will be made using the same criteria as for all applicants.
• Scholarships are only given in the form of tuition fee reductions. Under no circumstances will cash payments be given in lieu of tuition fee reductions.
• Once a course has commenced, scholarships may only be used for the course for which it was granted and may not be transferred to another course.
• All applicants, including new students never previously enrolled with RGIT, need to hold a valid CoE for an approved RGIT VET course, at the time of the application.

Eligibility Criteria:

The award will be available each year to a prospective student who is:

• a domestic or international student

• enrolled/enrolling in the Masters of General and Applied Linguistics (Advanced) program in the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics

• enrolled or approved to enrol in a relevant Linguistics thesis course in the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, namely THES8102

• interested in researching variation and change in Australian English that will contribute to the Sydney Speaks project
