The Norway Mobility Grant Scholarship for the academic year 2024-2025 invites applications from international students pursuing Master’s and PhD programs. Hosted by Norwegian universities, this scholarship supports studies in Languages, Cultures, and Literature. The application deadline is March 18, 2024.

Scholarship Benefits: Grant Coverage:

The mobility grant includes a fixed-rate travel stipend and a fixed-rate residence stipend. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the following rates apply:

  • Travel Stipend:
    • NOK 3,000 for travel from European countries.
    • NOK 4,500 for travel from St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia.
    • NOK 6,000 for travel from other Russian cities, Eurasian countries, and non-European countries.
  • Residence Stipend:
    • Aligned with rates set by The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund for basic support.
    • NOK 12,500 per month for the academic year 2023-2024.

Duration: The stipend is awarded for one, two, or three months, offering flexibility to accommodate various academic needs and research timelines.

Eligible Nationalities:

This scholarship is open to international students from all countries.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Academic Enrollment: Applicants must currently be enrolled as Master’s or Ph.D. students at a higher education institution outside Norway.
  2. Institutional Requirement: The applicant’s home institution must have a dedicated Department for Nordic/Scandinavian studies.
  3. Thesis/Dissertation Focus: Candidates must have chosen Norwegian language, literature, or culture as the central theme for their thesis or dissertation.
  4. Department Affiliation: Applicants should be associated with a department explicitly designated for Nordic/Scandinavian studies.

Special Consideration: In cases where applicants are not affiliated with a Department of Nordic/Scandinavian studies, their applications may still be reviewed under the following conditions:

  • Thesis/Dissertation Emphasis: Applications will be considered if the thesis/dissertation demonstrates a clear and significant focus on Norwegian language, literature, or culture.
  • Funding Availability: Consideration of such applications depends on the availability of funds for the specific purpose.

Application Procedure:

Follow these steps to apply for the Mobility Grant for language, literature, and culture:

  1. Guidelines Review:
  2. Project Preparation:
    • Develop a detailed project description.
    • Reach out to a lecturer or researcher in Norway specializing in your chosen subject area. Confirm their willingness to mentor you during your stay.
  3. Documentation Gathering:
    • Obtain a letter of support from your supervisor at your home institution.
    • Request an invitation letter from your host institution in Norway.
    • Collect mandatory attachments:
      • Recommendation letter from the home institution tutor.
      • Personal invitation letter from the Norwegian institution.
      • Copy of your passport.
  4. Online Application:
  5. Submission:
    • Ensure all mandatory attachments are included with your online application.
    • Submit the application before the specified deadline.
  6. Assessment Process:
    • All applications undergo internal assessment by HK-dir and are reviewed by the Program Committee for Norwegian Studies Abroad.
    • During the assessment, the relevance, design, and implementation of the project are evaluated.
  7. Outcome Notification:
    • The assessment process aims to be completed by late April 2024.
    • Applicants will receive notification of the outcome via email.

Application Deadline:

  • March 18th, 2024 (by 12:00 Norwegian time)

Submission Method:

All applications must be submitted online through HK-dir’s digital application form, Espresso. It is crucial to note that applications sent via email will not be assessed.

Additional Practical Information:

  • Grant recipients are responsible for arranging accommodation during their stay in Norway, as HK-dir does not provide housing.
  • Grant recipients requiring a visa should apply as early as possible at the nearest Norwegian embassy or consulate. The grant cannot be disbursed if a visa to enter Norway is rejected.
