PhD Research Focus:

The PhD position offers an exciting opportunity to work on magnesium (Mg) alloys and their applications in lightweight materials and hydrogen storage. Key research areas include:

• Investigating atomic-scale mechanisms that affect the strength and ductility of Mg-rare earth (RE) alloys

• Using advanced microstructural characterization techniques like EBSD, EDX, SAXS, and TEM

• Conducting ex situ and in situ nanoindentation tests (micro-tensile/compression)

• Contributing to the development of digital twins and new RE-free Mg alloy systems

This research will have a direct impact on advanced manufacturing, hydrogen storage, and lightweight materials for various industrial applications.

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum Requirements:

• A Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

• Strong knowledge of metallurgy, slip/twinning mechanisms, and the mechanical behavior of metals

• Experience with Mg alloys, micro-compression, or SEM techniques is a plus

• Excellent problem-solving skills

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment
