About the Åutomate Initiative
Åutomate is a newly established initiative that supports the automation and digitalization of experimental research laboratories. The program prepares research environments for data-driven and AI-assisted scientific discoveries by integrating modern engineering solutions into laboratory workflows.
Research assistants will work in interdisciplinary teams, receive mentorship from experienced engineers and faculty members, and collaborate with multiple research groups. Participants will also benefit from networking opportunities, technical seminars, and practical engineering experience relevant to research careers, industry positions, and future PhD studies.
Research Assistant Responsibilities
Selected candidates will work on short-term engineering projects based on the needs of different research laboratories. Depending on their expertise, research assistants may contribute to:
- Python programming and embedded systems development
- Instrument control and modular software design
- Data processing, signal analysis, and computer vision
- Database management and scientific data pipelines
- Electronics design, PCB development, and sensor integration
- Control systems and PID-based automation
- CAD modeling and rapid prototyping
- 3D printing and CNC manufacturing
- Robotics, robotic arms, and motion control systems
- Documentation, testing, and reporting of completed projects
Each project will be supervised by experienced researchers and technical staff to ensure successful completion.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced-level university program.
- Have completed at least three years of full-time studies in a master’s or civil engineering program.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance.
- Have completed advanced courses relevant to automation and digitalization.
- Possess experience in at least one, preferably two, of the required technical areas.
- Have excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
